by Mark Manson

I’ve listened to this twice on Audible, as I often do. This gives me a chance to absorb things I may not have caught the first time around. It’s narrated by Roger Wayne, who does a great job. He has an ability to shift his voice to iterate different “characters” in the book (like Disappointment Panda), which adds a great punch to this book.

DISCLAIMER: I’m an adult. There are curse words in this book and in this post. If you are offended by that, move along.

Mark Manson started out with a blog when he was looking for a “real” job after college. Over time this afforded him the ability to travel the world. 55 countries if I recall correctly. He uses his experiences, with unapologetic transparency, to share life lessons. These stories are not sugar coated.

Manson, like Jen Sincero with “You Are a Badass,” and Gary John Bishop with “Unfu*k Yourself,” gets right to the core and doesn’t mince words. My takeaway: Get the fuck over your damn self and go get some shit done. (I think I’ll make this my motto…)

It’s tough to capture a good quote when you’re listening to a book while driving, so alas, I don’t have a good one to share. Do know that there are some great zingers in there. He does an amazing job of coaching us to let go of the stupid shit, and reserve our “fucks to give” for people and situations that are really, truly worth it.

If you’re looking for a mindset shift, but don’t want all the woo woo, don’t skip this book.
