I discovered Jen Sincero early in my own second wind of self discovery. I took a 20 year hiatus from seeking or living my purpose and just lived with the status quo.

Until I got sick and my Naturopathic Doctor asked me, “What have you done for your spirit lately?”

I first listened to Ms. Sincero read her own work on Audible. I devoured the 5h : 45m book in about 3 bicycle rides. I loved it so much I listened to it again while I waited for the paperback to arrive so I could take notes in the margins (I’m old school).

Jen pulls no punches, so I’ll not waste time getting to the point.

THIS. BOOK. IS. AWESOME.

It says so in the title. But you could also find out for yourself by reading it.

Notes on the text:

Content is super relevant for a broad segment of the population. If you’re considering making some life altering changes in any area of your life, don’t skip this book. Because, let’s face it, you’re a BADASS, and you deserve to start living an awesome life. Pffffftttttt.

Chapters follow a general outline. Typically a testimonial (many are personal testimonials) starts the chapter, which are often peppered with humor (sometimes at the author’s expense). This is followed by some bullet-ed guidelines which you – dear reader – could implement today. Each chapter ends with some tips, which often boil down to loving yourself (which is great advice on endless repeat any day of the year). I love that I can count on a structure like this. And being the good student I am, I like having homework to do. It really drives the point home.

Notes on the audio:

There is nothing better than hearing an author read her own work. Period.

Jen delivers her stories, testimonials, and jokes with a keen sense of awareness, sprinkled with some sarcasm. It’s truly brilliant.

If you have a commute, you go on long runs or bike rides, or can find a few minutes a day to yourself, the audio book is worth it!

It’s just as easy to believe we’re awesome as it is to believe we’re giant sucking things. -Jen Sincero, NYT best selling author of “You Are A Badass”

Bottom line, Jen Sincero’s “You Are a Badass” was an early 3rd party tool on my personal journey back to wellness. It, a damn book, put it’s hands on my shoulders, squared me right up, look me in the eye, and said, “Get it together woman!” You should read it too.
